We have moved from the country to a residential area. Charlie loves everyone and is good with kids, he is playful and active.Charlie has been good at doggie day care and is fine with relatives dogs but he is territorial and we have had problems with him with the neighbors dogs. He needs to be out in the country or in a large fenced yard. He needs structure and someone to teach him to be a good citizen. We only have till April 10th to find him a home. Rescue Me ID: 14-04-01-00173Charlie (male)

Mountain Cur Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Charlie would love a job, a large yard with a fence or (even better) a farm. Apart from his infrequent aggressive episodes (he's attacked dogs maybe 6 times since we've owned him), he is a really good dog. He knows sit, stay, come, down, leave it, place, heel, and fetch. He has never been less than loving with our small children. He loves to please, and loves to be loved. He plays well with other dogs at doggy daycare and the dog park, and he has never had a problem with our other dog, or with doggy visitors that come to our house with friends.

Eastern Standard Time Subj: [SEPRR] SOS: Crisis with Winston 1066881 -Rescue or Foster Needed Now Charlotte, NC [3 Attachments] ... (Read More) From: 'Hagemann, Linda' (lhagemann@cmpd.org) Dear CMPD AC&C Rescues & Volunteers: SOS for Winston 1066881 Many of our volunteers know 7 year old, Lab/Boxer mix Winston who arrived to this shelter from the Cornelius Animal Control back in January. We did not have any initial notes on him but did know that he was owner surrendered. Our dog trainer Karen Owens had administered a temperament test on him earlier and just assessed him again. She describes him as social, gentle and very appropriate with his behavior. We are allowed to adopt him into a home with all aged children due to the his social skill and gentle approach. We have showcased him at two off-site events and he has shown exemplary behavior while out in public. He was adopted into a home from the February 1st adoption event but was returned due to unexpected separation stress. Winston did damage blinds, managed to bend a crate and climbed over their 4 foot fence when alone. When his people were present with him in the home, his short term owner positively raved on his immediate housetrained manners, his social skill with their grandchildren, and his contentment for family activity. Winston has been in several homes and clearly is stressed now from the shelter solitary confinement. He now panics when taken to the kennel run and tries to bolt past handlers with efforts to avoid the long term cage confinement. Staff has transferred him out of the adoption runs and will be the ones to get him out of the stray kennels to hand off to volunteers wanting to exercise him. Volunteers are not authorized to retrieve or return him to and from within the stray runs. His stress is expected to escalate soon to the point where keeping him here would be inhumane. WE NEED A RESCUE OR FOSTER HOME ASAP. This dog is at high risk of euthanasia if we cannot find a way to transfer him out of the shelter environment. We have spoken to Karen and dog trainer Marta Ruela who have given a training agenda to address the separation anxiety. There are steps one can make to gradually assist a dog to cope with being alone. There are so many book and on-line pointers as well. There is hope for this dog but Winston needs to be worked with -in a home environment. We now are desperate for a rescue or foster home for rehabilitation work with this wonderful dog. If you are not able to respond by taking this dog, please forward to all friends or contacts who may have this ability. We thank all of the volunteers who have exercised and loved on this dog. Special thanks to Adrianna for the photos and Bill and John for educating the prospective adopters with the training steps needed. ****Please call the vet staff at 704/336-3001 with any leads to save this dog.
