Rescue Me ID: 15-09-14-00106Big Dixie (female)

Mountain Cur Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Fee covers only a portion of rescuing the next dumped dog Big Dixie / Mostly Anatolian Sheppard Dog / Dixie is large dog with fluid movements and a calm temperament. I can meet Houston adopters in Baytown, Conroe, or Woodlands. She is well muscled with a strong head. The breed was developed to protect livestock. Her eye markings look like mastiff or the eyes of the dog pictured below. She does shed some. Dixie kennels well and comes on command. She does not have struggles with other dogs to be the alpha. She stretches out to run and has run over and rolled smaller dogs a few times. Though insulted they jump up and try unsuccessfully to ... (Read More)catch up. I have always owned dogs and other animals. I had a career in education and recreation, serving in many capacities. I began dog rescue as a librarian when I asked children what kind of summer program they would like and they chose dog rescue, dog training, and dog therapy. I sold Labrador retrievers and Jack Russell terriers before I became a dog rescuer and realized that until a lot of change occurs in the attitude of those who abuse and abandon dogs there is no need to be a breeder, there are planet of excellent dogs available that need help. I now live in land adjoining the Big Thicket National Preserve one of our National parks and a designated International Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations in 1981. While it is a land of magical plants and wildlife it is also an area of Texas which had great prosperity through nearby oil, offshore, and refinery jobs that no longer exist. With a populace not yet ready to understand the need for an education the middle class is shrinking, more people are renters, few programs exist for low cost spay and neuter, and many fine animals are dumped. Dixie came onto our property at about 6 weeks old and put her paws on the fence to be let in. She is easy to doctor and will roll into your lap for nail trimming although she is very frightened by it. She is shy and timid. Corrections can be done by displeased voice. I am in my 60s and have become overwhelmed with the number of dogs dumped I need to place some so I can foster more. Dixie has been spayed, has her shots, and is on heart worm medicine. One caution exists concerning small yappy biting dogs. I own several Jack Russell terriers who often swipe in and bite a large dog on the rear flank or attack over food. While Dixie has no first engagement fighting instinct she has pierced the ear of Kyle for nipping her on the rear one too many times. As shephard she has a protection instinct for herself and her pack. She is as protective of her human family as if she were guarding a heard of sheep. 409 4549619 (Less)

Hello, world! It's me, Rose! I'm sweet, and a little bashful at times, but if you let me, I will wiggle right up and do some good cuddling. Now, let's talk about looks! I'm cute, cute cute! My shiny, brindle coat will knock your socks off. And speaking of socks, I've got 2 and these ears... well they are in a class of their own. I'm only about 45 pounds, so I'm a really good size for a family pet. Even though I'm a little shy, I do get along with other dogs.

Spot is a good boy that loves to run and play with his toys and other dogs. He was surrendered to a kill shelter because the owners were moving. Spot can have his shy moments with new people, but once he warms up, his tail wags a mile a minute! He needs a home and family of his own.
